More and more vegan shoes are sold in Spain and this is the result of a reality and that is that more and more are pointing to a philosophy of life in which there is no place for food or materials of animal origin. Respect for all life is one of the maxims of this philosophy and that is why they take care of everything they buy, including clothing and footwear.

Vegan summer shoes are made of cotton fabric that in many cases is recycled and rubber that can also be partially recycled, which also makes them very sustainable. A vegan is also a person concerned about the environment and nature and for that reason, recycling is also very important and is on your list of things to consider when buying clothes.

The synthetic leather sole known as PU has the same qualities as real leather and has a very similar texture making it just as nice. Even the tails used to attach the sole to the rest of the shoe are taken into account so that they do not have animal components. The guarantee of this is the label that certifies that the product is vegan.

When we talk about winter shoes, PU is the most widely used material for outdoors. It is very difficult to distinguish from eco-leather, the other alternative material or leather at first glance and only after observing it very closely do you see the differences.

Between PU and eco-leather the differences are in the materials since PU is basically made of polyurethane mixed with other fibers, while eco-leather with PVC. PU is therefore of higher quality, is stronger and may have added alternative properties.

But for those who buy them, precisely the differences that we do not see are the ones that matter and that is that PU does not have elements of animal origin. Not having to sacrifice any creature in order to have shoes is very important for followers of vegan philosophy, which goes far beyond not eating meat.

Sustainable fabrics like organic cotton and the fact that garments meet certain ethical criteria are also things considered by vegans who want, in short, a better world for everyone, animals and people.

Han sido meses duros y aunque nos cuentan que todavía puede venir lo peor para otoño, vamos a tratar de pasar el verano de la mejor manera posible y ya veremos lo que sucede después. Por el momento, el barrio vuelve a la vida y mi negocio también. Tengo una cafetería que también vende productos de alimentación gourmet en un barrio residencial. Fue el hecho de tener también tienda de alimentación lo que me permitió no cerrar el negocio con el confinamiento.

Fue una situación muy extraña para mi local. No hay otro negocio así en el barrio, que combine cafetería clásica con tienda. El local está dividido en dos espacios. Por un lado, la cafetería con un servicio clásico y, por otro, una barra para la tienda en la que vendemos productos frescos, artesanales, pan, queso, etc. De hecho, en un principio costó hacer entender al cliente de la zona el ‘concepto’ del proyecto, pero finalmente fuimos haciéndonos con una clientela fiel. 

Al tener que cerrar la parte de la cafetería, tuve que hacer cambios. Debía ahorrar costes porque iba a tener menos ingresos. Dejé de pedir determinados productos a mis distribuidores, dejé de comprar congelados horeca, café y leche que era lo que más se vendía en época normal, cerveza, etc. Además, en la zona están haciendo muchos edificios y obras con lo que tenía mucha clientela de trabajadores y operarios que venían a desayunar al local. Al principio, las obras también pararon y aunque luego se recuperaron, se redujo el horario y la cantidad de personal de la mayoría de ellas. Con todo, yo seguía sin poder servir en mesa, aunque se me permitía dar bocadillos y café para llevar.

Ahora que ya estamos recuperando el ritmo, todavía el negocio se resiente. En el interior del local he tenido que quitar varias mesas para guardar la distancia de seguridad y, como no tengo posibilidad de terraza porque la calle es muy estrecha, voy a tener que pasar una temporada apostando más por la tienda. Aunque ya he recuperado el ritmo con los distribuidores y voy a volver a comprar congelados horeca y el resto de suministros, tendré que apretarme el cinturón y confiar en que no haya apocalipsis en otoño.
